School Culture
Alameda International High School recently merged O'Connell Middles school to create what is now Alameda International Jr./Sr High School which accomodates and provides for grades 7-12. The school embraces its greatly diverse student population and is on track to becoming a very diserable school for recieving an IB World School education. Many of the students are of hispanic origins with knowledge of a second language or are in the process of learning a second language ranging from English, Spanish, even Chinese. A notable percentage of the student population come from families with notable financial struggles and in some cases homelessness. As a result the school has done its best to provide support for some of these students including a breakfast program, free and reduced lunch accomodations, and counseling services.
Alameda International is currently in the midst of advocating for a new building to remedy the currently outdated and struggling infrastructure, fixtures, and equipment. To do so, Alameda staff is going to great lengths to strengthen and grow their IB curriculum with an emphasis on their athletics and art programs.
